School linking visits
Teachers can apply for School Linking
Visits through the British Council, or School Determined TIPD
visits through the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.
School Linking Visits (England and Wales)
Grants are available for a single teacher (or head
teacher or support staff) from schools in England and Wales to
visit a partner school and plan future joint curriculum projects.
Last year around 80 visits were funded through the
British Council and this will probably increase for
2008-9.
Visits to short-haul destinations include at least three days
spent in the partner school; visits to long-haul destinations
include at least five days in the partner school.
The maximum grant for a European visit is £500. The maximum
grant for a long haul visit is £1000. A flat rate for subsistence
is paid of £15 per day. Teachers must retain and submit
receipts for accommodation and travel costs. Car hire/taxi costs/
petrol cost/ airport car park fees will be considered on a case by
case basis.

Group School Linking Visits (England and Wales)
NEW Grants are available for groups of
teachers from school clusters in England and Wales to
visit partner schools and plan future joint curriculum projects.
This funding exists to help the development of strategic area
links. An area link may be between a local authority, an education
action zone, a cluster of schools or any other group of schools
working with an equivalent grouping overseas.

Other programmes
Many programmes such as Comenius and Global School
Partnerships offer a teacher visit as part of the programme or
as a preparatory visit. The British Council programme, Connecting
Classrooms, arranges teacher visits in larger groups to meet link
school staff. You can find summaries of these programmes on the
page about British Council managed programmes. More>>>
