Ofsted supports the British Council and the Department
for Education in aligning the development of the
International School Award with … achieving the Government’s aim
that over time all schools should gain the ISA for ‘equipping our
children, young people and adults for life in a global society and
work in a global economy’.
Ofsted has long emphasised that the ISA can
promote understanding of multicultural Britain as well as
internationalism and global awareness.
Their
‘International School Award’ status, for example, has had a very
positive impact on developing pupils’ awareness of the cultures of
other countries, while still promoting an understanding of their
own culture.
Ofsted Report 2007
The International School Award, managed by the
British Council, provides a framework for links with UK schools and
with schools in other countries to promote intercultural dialogue
and understanding. The framework starts at Foundation and moves up
to Full and is free to join.
The interconnectedness between local and
global, between oneself and others, runs through citizenship
curricular requirements and forms the basis for better
intercultural understanding.
