Overall effectiveness

............Parents praised the strong links the school maintains with schools in The Gambia and China. These pervade the school's day-to-day life, and give pupils a real insight into life in other countries through their correspondence and the books they make about the life of children here and abroad… Cultural development is a particular strength with pupils benefiting from the school's focus on the global dimension.

Hagley Primary School, 2007

.............The school has again been awarded the International School Award for excellence in this aspect...........Well-adapted activities support enable pupils who find learning difficult to take part in all subjects. Because pupils enjoy them so much, an excellent range of clubs are very well attended, including sports, drama and art clubs, brass and steel bands, and the 'Erondu' African heritage club.

Elms Primary and Nursery, 2007

.................The international flavour of the school is demonstrated by the high proportion of pupils who study a modern foreign language to GCSE level… The international links are appreciated by the pupils, as are the very good facilities for information and communication technology. These came together when the school represented Europe in a United Nations video link with schools around the world.

The Ridings High School 2006

...............Personal well-being and development are outstanding.... The school is successfully tackling a tradition of low attainment, poor participation in further education and lack of self-esteem.... Looking outwards to the world is part of a strategy to raise aspirations. Numerous school trips are undertaken for example to China, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic and France. Video conferencing promotes language learning and international understanding. Consequently, students are gaining an appreciation of the rich diversity of cultures within British society and across the world.

The school has also cultivated substantial international links and through these, as well as through the curriculum, students learn to appreciate other cultures; for example, the school has forged strong links with schools in Thailand. Citizenship also makes a good contribution to students’ social and moral development.

The Hayesbrook School 2005

All students’ learning is enriched by a particularly wide range of extra-curricular activities, excellent links with colleges and partner schools, and visits to other countries, for example, Uganda. These activities also contribute very well to the provision for gifted and talented students and those with learning difficulties and/or disabilities, who both do exceptionally well.

A good example of the outcome of the extensive fundraising is the opening of a school in the Philippines and its continued financial support. There are other equally exciting links with schools in Africa, India and Russia. These links help students to appreciate what they can do to give something back and help others who are less fortunate.
