On the DCSF Global Gateway, there are more than 20,000 schools from all over the world. There's lots of advice about how to use the Gateway to get the best results, but the best way is to try it!

You must register your school to access the database, although you can look before you leap - registration is only required if you need to see full contact details.

How do we use the Global Gateway service?

We support you in finding a partner school, and aim to have you linked straight away. If you need a partner school and want a support network to assist with ICT links, project ideas or just with experience of the link, we can advise you.

Some schools designate a teacher or Governor to be an international coordinator; in many schools the head teacher posts the message and sets up the link. For a much fuller introduction to how to use the Gateway, partnership activities and other ways to link (such as through eTwinning, through NGOs, through town twinning etc), please go to the partnerfinding section on the Schools Zone of the Global Gateway.

Anyone involved in leadership, management or school development should note that the partnerfinding service is free and can help schools in the UK to comply with:
  • Global Dimension
  • Languages Strategy
  • (including Community Languages)
  • International Strategy
  • Respecting Diversity
  • Every Child Matters
  • Excellence and Enjoyment
  • Extended Schools
  • Citizenship Agenda
  • Community Cohesion
  • Virtual Learning Environments
  • Communication Skills
  • Project Based Learning
  • Student Voice

You can also combine your international work with the following themes for the whole school:

  • Eco Schools
  • Fair Trade
  • Sustainable Schools
  • Rights Respecting Schools
  • Healthy Schools
The DCSF International School Award makes the ideal framework for developing international links and focusing on learning outcomes.

If you would like advice on starting a partnership or achieving any particular objective (such as the ones listed above), or if you have any problems, unwanted replies, confusing emails or spam, then please email the editor, editor@globalgateway.org
