DfE funded programme to increase collaborative effort between Russian and UK universities. More>>>
 
CEDEFOP - study visits for staff
Next deadline: 9 February
  • Four to five day study visits abroad for UK staff working in vocational training
  • Each country involved has a National Liaison Officer (NLO) and a Technical Support Agency (TSA), who organise study visits to their country and select participants from their country to travel abroad
The visits are advertised in an annual catalogue. Applicants should not have taken part in a CEDEFOP study visit in the last two years. More>>>
 
 
Comenius 1 - school partnerships
  • Projects must be cross-curricular and whole institution, so rare in the FE environment: however, a few do exist
  • Partnerships of at least three schools or colleges across at least three countries work on joint, cross-curricular projects
  • Funding for up to three years

Comenius 1 - language projects
  • Colleges work with one school or college in another country
  • Programme is aimed at pupils and students aged 12 to 25
    Focus on developing foreign language skills, including a reciprocal two-week exchnage as part of a curriculum project.
Funding covers students' and staff travel and subsistence and certain other project costs. A grant of between €1,500 and €2,000 is available. More>>>
 
Comenius 1 - development projects
  • Involve at least three schools or colleges across at least three countries
  • Management, professional develoment and whole institution issues
  • Again, may be rare in the FE environment
  • Two years' funding
Grantholders receive an annual award of between €1,5000 and €2,000 plus an additional amount for travel and subsistence. More>>>
 
Comenius 2 - professional development
  • Extensive range of training courses and other types of professional development funded
  • Funding for up to four week training programmes 
  • In-service training opportunities available to language lecturers and others 
Up to €1,500 is available for professional development overseas. More>>>  
 
Comenius 2 - European co-operation projects
  • Co-operation projects Involve three or more institutions across three countries
  • Up to 10 weeks of training in another European country also funded for trainee lecturers - must involve teacher trainers in at least three countries   
Funding is available for up to a maximum of 75 per cent of total costs. Trainees can apply for up to €500. 
 
Comenius Language Assistants
FE colleges can also host a Comenius Language Assistant. These are native speakers from another European country whose role is to support an international dimension in the curriculum. Assistants can also teach their own language.
 
Comenius language assistants are paid a monthly allowance through the British Council. They come at no cost to the host institution. More>>>
 
 
Connect Youth - Youth Exchanges and European Youth Encounters
  • Youth Exchanges bring together groups of young people from different backgrounds from two or more eligible countries
  • They must take place in one of the partner countries but do not necessarily have to be reciprocated. If they are, a second application must be submitted
  • Youth Encounters are large-scale, multilateral activities involving partners from a minimum of eight programme countries (of which at least two must be EU member states)
  • Groups of young people aged 15-25 who are legally resident in a country are eligible to participate
  • Youth Encounters should have a minimum of 60 and a maximum of 200 participants 
  • National groups must be balanced in terms of numbers
Grants for Youth Exchanges are calculated on the basis of real costs for travel and fixed rates for all related costs. More>>>  
 
Connect Youth - European Voluntary Service (EVS), volunteering for ages 18 to 25
EVS is Action 2 of the European YOUTH Programme.
  • Young people volunteer to work in the social, environmental and cultural fields
  • Voluntary service takes place in another country for 6-12 months
  • There are no pre-conditions in terms of qualifications or social background
  • Short-term placements (3 weeks to 6 months) are available to young people with fewer opportunities, who can then choose to go on a long-term EVS project
Potential volunteers must be between 18 and 25 and live in an eligible programme country. There is no cost to the young person. The sending or hosting organisations and the EU co-fund the experience. More>>>

Funding for youth workers engaged in the European YOUTH programme 
Aim is to continuously improve quality and delivery
 
Applicants need to have some international youth experience. More>>>
 
Connect Youth - Youth Initiatives, and Group Initiatives
  • Group Initiatives are projects devised, managed and operated by young people aged between 15 and 25
Successful applicants for Group Initiatives can receive up to €10,000 - the grant depends on the area of priority in which the project falls. More>>>
 
 
DelPHE
Department for International Development's new scheme to provide funding for partnerships between HE institutions working on collaborative activity linked to development goals. More>>>
 
EAP (England - Africa Partnerships)
New DfE initiative that funds HE partnerships between the England and Sub-Saharan Africa. More>>>
 
 
Erasmus
European Commission's programme for HE students, teachers and institutions. It encourages student and staff mobility for work and study, and promotes trans-national co-operation projects among universities across Europe. More>>>
 
Global Xchange - volunteering exchange programme
  • For young people aged 18 to 25, Global Xchange is run by a partnership of three organisations: CSV, The British Council and VSO  
  • Young people live and work in host communities in their own and in another country
  • Volunteers are selected in the UK and in partner countries
  • They live and work together in the UK for 3 months, and in the partner country for 3 months

Grundtvig

The Grundtvig programme is a passport to partnerships and training opportunities for adult education organisations, teachers and learners. The programme is part of the European Commission’s new Lifelong Learning Programme and aims to strengthen the European dimension in adult education and lifelong learning across Europe. All Grundtvig projects involve working with European partners and offer a great learning and personal development experience for staff and learners. Leonardo

The Leonardo da Vinci programme is a great way to improve the provision of work-based learning in the UK. The programme is part of the European Commission’s new Lifelong Learning Programme and aims to build a skilled workforce across Europe.

All Leonardo projects involve working with European partners and allow you to build European partnerships, exchange best practice, increase the expertise of your staff and develop the skills of learners. Training Bridge - work placements and staff study visits to German companies
  • Work placements for students
  • Study visits for staff
A scheme for companies where employees are working towards some type of vocational qualification. The Vocational Partnerships department of the British Council co-ordinates the programme in conjunction with its partner organisation in Germany. Average funding for a project involving eight participants and one training manager is in the region of £10,000. Grants are awarded to organisations to help cover the principal costs of the project such as language training, travel, insurance and accommodation in Germany. More>>>

The Transversal programme supports education and training organisations in the areas of policy, languages, ICT and dissemination.
