Make Your Mark Challenge
The Make Your Mark Challenge is UK’s largest, one-day enterprise
competition for 14-19 year olds. It kick-starts Global Entrepreneurship Week and
engages students from secondary schools and further education
colleges across the UK. On Monday 16 November students from over
1,000 schools and colleges will work in small teams to generate new
and innovative entrepreneurial ideas in response to a brief that is
kept secret until Challenge Day.
The Make Your Mark
Challenge has run annually since 2005 and as a result of this
has become an established part of school and college calendars. In
2008 the competition was a huge success where over 56,000 students
from over 1,000 schools and colleges nationwide took part.
This year’s competition has a global theme, in
keeping with its role as the curtain raiser for GEW in the UK,
and will encourage students to think about the environmental
impact of their idea. Don’t be a carbon copy – go low carbon!
The competition identifies the best of the
UK’s young entrepreneurial talent through a series of 12 regional
finals and culminates in a prestigious final in London in December
where the winning teams are selected by a high profile panel of
judges.
- The winners of the 14-16 category will visit a school in France
or Belgium (by Eurostar) to share and develop their enterprise
ideas. This will be an opportunity to either enrich an
existing school partnership or develop a new one
- The winners of the 16-19 category will travel to Serbia to
participate in the Skills@Work Challenge final, a joint-project
between the British Council and Junior Achievement-Young Enterprise
(JA-YE) Europe, and supported by Microsoft CEE. The team will
also participate in a virtual final with counterparts from
countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan.
